Tasmania's Affordable IVF and Fertility Support Initiative pays residents up to A$2,000 in total, one-off, towards out-of-pocket costs of IVF, including fertility preservation, and artificial insemination at TasIVF or Fertility Tasmania. It is not means tested and covers services from 1 July 2026 to 30 June 2028, or until the A$5 million in the 2026-27 State Budget runs out.

Third-party fertility tests, storage fees, genetic screening, the purchase of donor sperm or eggs, and treatment with interstate providers. One point to check: the fact sheet says the rebate covers only IVF and artificial insemination, while the guidelines also list frozen or donor embryo or egg preparation.
Because the entitlement is A$2,000 in total, an insemination claim (A$900) uses part of it, and the program ends on 30 June 2028 or earlier if the money runs out. Medicare still pays benefits for clinically relevant ART services, with no cycle limit set in Services Australia's billing guidance (April 2025).
This is a two-year, capped program. Confirm the current rules and remaining funds with the Tasmanian Department of Health or Service Tasmania, and your costs with your clinic, Medicare and your health insurer.
The Tasmanian rebate leaves out genetic screening and donor gametes, so it helps to know when they are actually needed. Map to the Positive explains:
Donation and PGT sit at the top of the treatment ladder in Chapter 34 of Map to the Positive, in Station IV. The chapter explains each rung from clinical optimisation through IUI and IVF, and why care starts with the least invasive option. The same station covers when to see a specialist, choosing a doctor and IVF step by step.
