The 2,793 procedures included 2,355 embryo transfers and resulted in 1,047 live-birth deliveries and 1,111 live-born infants. The figure of 1,132 ART babies is a different count: births to Missouri mothers during calendar year 2021, out of 69,453 in total.
CDC counts by the patient's state of residence. Missouri residents treated in another state are included here, and out-of-state patients treated in Missouri are not, so the figures may not reflect Missouri's own clinics.

Map to the Positive explains that responsible reproductive medicine starts with the least invasive and least expensive option and moves up as needed. Skipping rungs can be justified with advanced age or a severe diagnosis, but as a general rule:
If a clinic proposes IVF first, ask which rung fits your diagnosis and why. The book lists "IVF recommended too early, without a workup" among a doctor's warning signs.
The ladder is the core of Chapter 34 of Map to the Positive, in Station IV, which describes each treatment level and who it suits. The station also covers when to see a specialist, how to choose a doctor and IVF phase by phase.
