CDC's 2021 state data brief (published December 2023) lists 4 reporting clinics in Utah, and women living in Utah had 2,904 ART procedures. At 3,514 per million women aged 15 to 49, Utah was above the U.S. rate of 3,250, and 2.5% of babies born to Utah residents in 2021 were conceived with ART (U.S.: 2.3%).
Few clinics, high use: four reporting clinics, and a procedure rate above the national one. For Utah residents in 2021:
| CDC measure, 2021 | Utah |
|---|---|
| Clinics in Utah reporting to CDC | 4 |
| ART procedures for women living in Utah | 2,904 |
| Procedures per 1 million women aged 15 to 49 (U.S.: 3,250) | 3,514 |
| Embryo-transfer procedures among them | 2,426 |
| Live-birth deliveries from these procedures | 1,182 |
| Live-born infants from these procedures | 1,289 |
| Babies born in 2021 to Utah residents conceived with ART | 1,173 of 46,712 (2.5%; U.S.: 2.3%) |

The 2,426 embryo transfers led to 1,182 live-birth deliveries and 1,289 live-born infants. Separately, 1,173 of the 46,712 babies born to Utah residents during 2021 were conceived with ART.
CDC counts procedures by the patient's state of residence, so Utah women treated in other states are included, and only reporting clinics appear (453 of 501 nationally in 2021). The rate tells you how common ART is among Utah residents, not how any one clinic performs.
Utah does not require private insurers to cover infertility treatment; its rules apply to the Public Employees' Health Plan and Medicaid, for example IVF-related care for carriers of certain genetic diseases. Ask your insurer or HR what your plan covers, ask each clinic for its results for women your age, and confirm, because rules and prices change.
Map to the Positive walks through the last two phases of IVF, the ones that feel most uncertain:
The book calls this wait the most emotionally difficult stretch of the process.
The transfer and the two-week wait are Phases 4 and 5 in Chapter 35 of Map to the Positive, in Station IV. The chapter also covers stimulation, retrieval and the lab, the common myths, and the questions to ask before IVF.
