Nova Scotia does not fund IVF directly. It offers a refundable Fertility and Surrogacy Tax Credit of 40% of eligible medical expenses, up to C$20,000 a year, for a maximum credit of C$8,000 per couple per year, with no limit on the number of treatments. The official page, dated May 1, 2026, covers tax years 2022 to 2025 and does not say whether the credit continues for 2026.

CFAS puts the credit's estimated cost at C$3 million in 2023-24.
This credit is not claimed on your federal return. Each tax year needs its own application to the Government of Nova Scotia, and the review takes 8 to 10 weeks, so you recover money well after you pay. Because there is no limit on the number of treatments, the yearly ceiling of C$20,000 in expenses is the figure to plan around.
As of October 2026, the official page does not say whether the credit applies to the 2026 tax year. Do not count on it for 2026 until the Government of Nova Scotia confirms.
The usual rule is 12 months of trying under 35 and 6 months from 35. Map to the Positive lists situations where you should see a specialist right away:
These red flags are in Chapter 29 of Map to the Positive, When to see a specialist, at the start of Station IV. The station goes on to choosing the right doctor, the treatment ladder from the simplest option to IVF, and IVF step by step with the questions to ask before you start.
