New Brunswick's Fertility Treatment Reimbursement Program, announced on April 30, 2025, reimburses 100% of one IVF cycle per household (up to C$20,000, including cycle medications) and one IUI round (up to C$10,000). It is open to residents with a valid NB Medicare card who were over 18 and under 43 when treatment began, for treatment at licensed New Brunswick or Nova Scotia clinics. These are the rules on the provincial program page as of October 2026.
| Treatment | Reimbursement | Limit per household |
|---|---|---|
| IVF | 100% of one cycle, once per household | Up to C$20,000 |
| IUI | 100% of costs, once per household | Up to C$10,000 |

The April 2025 announcement, which committed more than C$1.9 million, described the program as one round of IVF or IUI per household; the program page lists each treatment separately. Ask the program whether one household can claim both. Treatment is reimbursed whether or not it succeeds.
| Covered | Not covered |
|---|---|
| Consultation, monitoring, egg retrieval | Purchase of donor sperm, eggs or embryos |
| Standard IVF, and ICSI if medically indicated | Surrogacy and genetic testing |
| Blastocyst culture and one fresh or frozen embryo transfer | Ongoing storage |
| Freezing and storage of extra blastocysts for up to two years | Treatment outside Canada, and travel |
| Cycle medications | Multiple IVF cycles |
The program replaced a one-time grant of up to C$5,000. Households that received money under that earlier program can still claim for a new, unclaimed IVF or IUI round.
This is a reimbursement: you pay for treatment first, bill your private insurance first, and apply within 12 months of completing treatment. The amount reimbursed by the province cannot also be claimed under the federal Medical Expense Tax Credit, which excludes reimbursed expenses (Government of Canada, September 2024).
Check with the Government of New Brunswick that your clinic is licensed and that your planned treatment fits the program, and ask your insurer what it pays first. Rules change, so confirm the current version.
With a cap and a list of exclusions, the book's pre-IVF questions are worth asking out loud. From Map to the Positive:
The answers tell you how much of your cycle falls inside the program and what you would pay on your own.
These questions close Chapter 35 of Map to the Positive, IVF demystified, in Station IV. The chapter walks through the five phases of a cycle, from stimulation to the two-week wait. The station also covers when to see a specialist, how to choose a doctor and the treatment ladder.
Take 30 days. If it does not give you more clarity than everything you have read for free so far, ask for a refund and you get every cent back. We cannot promise you a pregnancy. We can promise you will not be guessing.
